"What are some of the different translations and
the difference between them?"

Psalm 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

Answer:

N.I.V. New International Version

N.A.S.B. New American Standard Version

N.K.J.V. New King James Version

N.R.S.V. New Revised Standard Version

R.S.V. Revised Standard Version

N.A.B. New Age Bible, etc.

K.J.V. King James Version

Living Bible

New Jerusalem

New Century

The First noticeable difference can be seen in the fact that only the K.J.V. is not copyrighted. All the others are copyrighted. The purpose for this is the Owner’s of the copyright must be paid for the use of these. If you reprint or quote more than a certain amount from their versions you must get permission from the holder of the owner’s copyright.

The second has to do with how they were translated and which document’s were used for the translation. All came from only two roads.

The K.J.V. for example came by the way that is called "Textus Receptius", "Majority Text", or "Byzantine Text". All the other’s use a different starting point, this is why there is a difference in the final product. The other’s use the "Septuagint" [seventy]. Supposedly, the King of Egypt [Ptolemy] in 250 B.C. created a greek old testament with six Jews from each of the 12 tribes. However, LXX stands for 70 not 72 and remember only the tribe of Levi was permitted by God to write the scriptures.

NOTE:

Any Jew living in Egypt would have to be in disobedience to the command of God.
Deuteronomy 17:16 But he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forsasmuch as the Lord said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.

Jesus never quoted from the Septuagint "Origins".
The Greek used for all but the K.J.V. are the Alexandria Manuscripts, the Vaticans and Sinaiticus, these two, disagree with one another over 3,000 times in the gospels alone. Westcott and Hort could only pick out what they liked. These men and manuscripts are the basis for all the new translations. This doesn’t seem like a better word to me.

The Bible

Why so many different ideas about the Word of God?

Why do we have so many different English translations?

What are some of the different translations and the difference between them?

Who are some of the different translators and the difference between them?

Is there a bigger plan behind the new translations?

Is the King James Version the only Bible?
